Malacañang has released the list of holidays in the Philippines (regular, special [non-working] days, and special holiday (for all schools) in 2012 under Proclamation 295.

Proclamation No. 295 also states that Malacañang will declare holidays for the observance of Eid'l Fitr and Eidul Adha after the approximate dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar or the lunar calendar.

DOLE bares 41 countries banned for deployment of OFW's!
The Department of Labour and Employment in a board resolution posted the blacklisted countries failed to sign international conventions protecting foreign workers.
POEA Governing Board, said that Section 3 of R.A. 10022 which provides that “the State shall allow the deployment of overseas workers ONLY in countries where the rights of Filipino migrant workers are protected."

Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital to build much needed maternal health wing, at last!
Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital located at Digos City will get a two storey facility which will house maternal health services and facilities with a target completion on the last quarter of 2013.
The first phase of construction will include rooms for X-ray, ultrasound, emergency, nursery and central supply where the second floor of the building will accommodate the obstetrics-gynecology wards.
The hospital has currently a 170 bed-capacity that caters to pregnant women to avail of obstetrical service.
They are planning to expand the bed capacity to 80 additional beds, hopefully towards the last quarter of 2014 or first quarter of 2015.
Two OB-Gyne consultants will be hired to ensure better maternal health care and services.
Governor Douglas Cagas has been supporting this cause and is closely working with the Provincial Health Office for the upgrading of hospital facilities to provide better service to his constituents.

Bansalan's Lao Integrated Farms a role model on countryside development!
The coconut sugar firm in Bansalan, Davao del Sur is a role model of the Department of Science and Technology’s flagship program on countryside development.

DOST Secretary Mario G. Montejo commended the Lao Integrated Farms, Inc. based in Barangay Eman, Bansalan for bringing improvements into the rural area of the province, using appropriate technology innovations.
Farm owner and chief executive officer Benjamin Lao started ten years ago from a barren land in Brgy. Eman. The inventor and producer of the Donnabelle coconut sugar and syrup products made from coconut sap.
Lao recalled that he started developing the one-hectare coconut farm and introduced organic farming. Today, Donnabelle coco sugar and syrup products are exported to Australia, Germany and Japan.
The business has also expanded to other coco sugar-based products such as ginger tea, moringa, lemon grass and seasonings.
Lao said he had only seven workers prior to the DOST assistance. The company now has a workforce of 86 toddy suppliers and 35 regular employees.
He plans employing 50 additional workers when he expands the business to Japan by the last quarter of 2012.
Lao is a national awardee as Outstanding Farmer and Magsasakang Syentista. DATU Bago Award, the most prestigious awards conferred by the City Government and partner organizations to outstanding Dabawenyos, has opened its doors again for its 2012 nomination.

Apart from that general qualification, nominees must comply with the following criteria set by the board:
For a living nominee, he or she must accept the nomination. Previous nominees can still be re-nominated provided updates on his/her accomplishments must be submitted.
However, those who have won an award are no longer qualified to be nominated.
Specifically, all who possess the following attributes are qualified for the award:
1. substantial contribution(s) to the growth and development of the City of Davao;
2. exemplary service(s) rendered to the community in any field or endeavor;

There is no need for most people to take vitamin supplements and some may even be linked to a higher risk of dying in older women, according to a study published Monday in the United States.

Free Breast Cancer Screening on Oct. 9 at NCCC Mall!
THE Davao Cancer Society will provide the public free breast examination and consultation, breast ultrasound, and fine needle aspiration biopsy at the NCCC Mall of Davao on October 9, 2011!

The event is in cooperation with the Davao Cancer Society in the celebration of the 2nd Atty. Eugenia Marfori Celi Breast Cancer Awareness and World Menopause Day in commemoration of the Breast Cancer Month.
Aside from the free breast examination, flu vaccines will also be given for free to the first 200 participants.
A fun run dubbed "Pink Run" will also be held on the same day. Cancer survivors can join the one-kilometer run for free. Registrations for the 4K category is at P300 while the 8K and 12K at P600.

3rd Dayaw Festival held in Tagum City this Oct. 7-9!
The 3rd Dayaw - Indigenous Peoples Festival for 2011 will be held in Tagum City this October 7 to 9, 2011!

Dayaw is an annual celebration of the Indigenous Peoples Festival, this festival is a venue for indigenous peoples to celebrate the richness of their culture. Allow cultural exchanges that will foster deeper cultural understanding to sustain a culture of peace. Provide opportunity to discuss the rights of Indigenous People. Give students and other people a chance to deepen their awareness and appreciation of indeginous cultures.
Dayaw will showcase their rituals, performing arts, cuisines, games, crafts and others. Additionally, they will be joined by delegates from Southeast Asian countries in simultaneous exchange and interactive activities such as performances, exhibitions, forums, lecture-demonstration, workshops on traditional crafts and cuisines and indigenous games.
The Energy Park in Barangay Apokon will be the main venue for the said festival. Outreach programs will also be held in Davao City and some towns in the provinces of Davao del Norte and Compostella Valley. Taking the lead on the preparation of Dayaw is the Tagum City Tourism Council, headed by its President, Mrs. Alma L. Uy.
The Dayaw celebration is in consonance with the Presidencial Proclamation 1906, declaring October as National Indigeous Peoples Month in the Philippines.

SMX Convention Center Davao to rise soon!
Davao City will be having an SMX Convention Center soon, which will be part of the SM City Lanang. This will be a big boost to Davao City's economy since this will be the largest convention center to rise in Mindanao.
The SMX Convention Center in Davao City is smaller in size compared to the one in Manila. It has a leasable area of 5,400 square meters (can be split into three halls with a maximum capacity of 1,800 people each) if combined it can accommodate about 5,000 plus people.
This will be Mindanao's largest privately-run exhibition and convention facility, the SMX Convention Center is an ideal venue for international exhibitions, large-scale local trade events, major medical and other industry conventions and corporate and social functions.
