Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) indications!

Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJD or TMD), or TMJ syndrome, is an umbrella term covering acute or chronic inflammation of the temporomandibular joint, which connects the mandible to the skull. The disorder and resultant dysfunction can result in significant pain and impairment.

TMD is sometimes caused by Anatomic factors (malocclusion) like:

  • Loss of one or more teeth

  • Loss of vertical dimension

  • Excessive tooth wear

  • An underdeveloped upper jaw

On the dentist point of view Dental Distress Syndrome is an indication of a TMD.

People with DDS typically may complain of one or many of the following:

  • Pain or tenderness of the TMJ area

  • Difficulty in opening or closing

  • Headaches

  • Dizziness

  • Hearing loss

  • Depression

  • Worrying

  • Nervousness

  • Forgetfulness

  • Insomnia

  • Sinusitis

  • Fatigue

  • Indigestion

  • Constipation

  • Dermatitis

  • Allergies

  • Frequent urination

  • Kidney and bladder complications

  • Cold hands and feet

  • Back and leg aches

  • Numbness

  • Body posture problems

DS is a dominant stressor of the body. Elimination of DDS can reverse many of these chronic conditions if caused by faulty proprioception. Faulty proprioception also affects the 5 th cranial nerve, which serves the lower jaw. This nerve has both motor and sensory functions and affects over 50% of the body’s functions.

The arteries and the veins that bring blood to and from your brain flow directly through 68 pairs of “dental muscles”. When the muscles become tight due to DDS, blood flow to the brain and the pituitary gland is reduced.

If you have any of those symptoms it is about time to visit your Dentist who has a knowledge of TMJ Disorder, here in Davao City you can go and visit Ortiz Dental Clinic at 101 Maa Road cor South St. DBP Village, Matina just across NCCC Mall. They specialize in TMD problems.

Persistent headache? Visit your dentist?

If you have a headache, quite often and you've been to your medical doctor, took the prescribed pain reliever and still the headache persist. And, if the problem persists, the cause may lie in your mouth. It is time to visit your dentist!

The cause of your headaches could actually be in the way you occlude your teeth in your jaw known as dental occlusion. Dental occlusion is the way your teeth meet when your jaws bite together. Temporo-Mandibular Joint (TMJ) disorder is a neuromuscular jaw condition caused by an imbalanced bite. When the joint causes pressure to be put on the nerves muscles and blood vessels that pass near the head, the result can be headaches and migraines.

If you suffer from continual headaches or migraines, especially first thing in the morning, pain behind your eyes, sinus pains and pains in the neck or shoulders, you should consider visiting your dentist, as well as a Doctor, as soon as possible.

There are lots of people who's dental occlusion are not perfect yet they show no symptoms and adjust well to this problem. And for those who cannot adjust may suffer and the most affected place in the mouth are the teeth and gums and instead of headaches they have broken teeth, fillings, loose teeth and toothache with no apparent cause.

If you have any of these problems, visit a dentist immediately or at best visit Ortiz Dental Clinic.

For the treatment your dentist need to be carefully adjust your teeth to meet evenly, as changing the direction and position of the slopes that guide your teeth together can often help reposition the jaw. If your teeth are too far out of line or in a totally incorrect bite position, it may be necessary to fit a brace to move them into a better position.

As the Temporo-Mandibular Joint needs equal support from both sides of both jaws, the chewing action is designed to work properly only when all your teeth are present and in the correct position. Therefore, missing teeth may need to be replaced either with a partial denture or bridgework.

For Temporo-Mandibular Joint problems that causes migraines, all you need to do is visit your dentist or Ortiz Dental Clinic for proper diagnosis and treatment.

If you have persistent headahes and migraines and you doctor cannot help you, your dentist can!

Prices of dental braces: What does the price depends on?

Prices of dental braces is always a big factor for parents and those who are working to finance themselves to straighten their teeth.

Once you have decided that you or your child need dental braces. You then ask a friend or acquaintances what they paid and how much. You usually receive different answers. Some of them may have done their braces  a long timeago.

Braces are usually paid in installments. Nevertheless, it really would cost thousands of pesos and you have to pay it for a period of time from one year and a half  up to more than two years.
We also have to consider that each dentist has their own price schedule. The price is then determined based on your specific case based on the dentist's fee schedule. Posting prices of braces on their website or even giving you the price over the phone would not make much sense because each case is different.

Things to consider and factors that influence the price of braces are:

  • the severity and complexity of the orthodontic problem,

  • length of treatment,

  • type of braces,

  • use of additional appliances such as retainers,

  • whether or not oral surgery is needed,

  • expertise of the orthodontist,

  • location of the orthodontist.

The most important at this point is the expertise of the dentist, since the result of the treatment will be more desirable.

When in Davao City, all you need to do is visit:
