House Speaker Prospero Nograles formally launched Saturday his bid for mayoralty post in this city and he will be running alongside former Davao City mayor Benjamin de Guzman as his  vice-mayor, his son Karlo Nograles will run as a congresssman for the first district of Davao City.

House Speaker Prospero Nograles issued an emailed statement saying, "This will be like the most anticipated fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather. And since I am an ardent Pacquiao supporter, I'll be the Pacquaio in this fight. Me and my son will give them a good fight."

On a TV show this morning Mayor Rodrigo Duterte appeared to be irked by the statement issued by the House Speaker. He said that, "It is Pacquiao who beated Mayweather in the boxing ring,  and I beat him when he ran as a candidate for mayor in the city. The comparison is absurd."

“Dont compare yourself to (Manny) Pacquiao. Look, ikumpara imong nawong mura ni  Roderick Paulate,” Duterte also said.

Vice Mayor Sarah Duterte, the daughter of the mayor will be running against the House Speaker and he said Councilor Mabel Acosta is his bet to run for the 1st District as congressman against Nograles son.

Duterte claimed Nograles has about P500 million to run his campaign.

On a report on the Daily Mirror House Speaker Nograles answered back:

On the P500 million kitty, Nograles texted: “He should go asap to mental hospital to ever conceive that. You know the guy, a master in trickery and double speak. Mayor has 800 million a year of discretionary peace and order calamity, etc. which he cannot account. Not me!”

Nograles continued: “Maybe on basic reason (behind) this lie (about the) P500m for elections is to pressure Davao businessmen to contribute more to his campaign funds. He is not satisfied with his P1.2 million daily budget given to him by his City Council, the mayors’ discretionary and peace and order funds for the last 22 years. He probably wants to get more from businessman whom he already punished with 3,200 percent increase in real estate taxes. What a guy!” 500 million worth of projects? Yes, of course. Mine is projects, his is P800 million cash, discretionary peace and order funds, without accounting, care of his city council.”

Nograles, who for a time kept his political cards to his chest, yesterday said “tell your mayor to answer the issues, do not get personal.
