The Chinese Mid-Autumn Moon Festival, is a popular harvest festival celebrated by Chinese. A very important festival for the Chinese people, falls on the 15th day of the 8th month in the Lunar Calendar. This is when the moon is believed to be in its fullest and roundest. This year, it falls on October 3, Saturday.

In Chinese culture, the full moon is a symbol of peace and prosperity for the whole family. Its roundness symbolizes wholeness and togetherness. The number 8 is a symbol of wealth and prosperity.

The Mayor of Davao City got cought driving his motor bike without any protective helmet on and just like any ordinary citizen he readily obliged and did not use his powers as an official of the city. He readily admitted his mistake.

A total of 1,101 out of 2,613 examinees passed the Electrical Engineer Licensure Examinations given by the Board of Electrical Engineering on Sept. 12-13, 2009, said the Professional Regulations Commission.

Eco-tourism Park to rise in Tagum City!

An eco-tourism park patterned after the Windows of the World theme park in China is being developed in a semi-forested area here by the city government.

Covering 48 hectares, the Windows of the World in the industrial city of Shenzhen is known for its replicas of over a hundred world landmarks.

The “premier eco-tourism destination” was being built over a 65-hectare area in Barangay (village) San Agustin.

An additional requirement that must be submitted to the LTO in getting a driver's license or renewal is – a valid ID or document such as an income tax form, for example – bearing the license applicant’s tax identification number (TIN). The requirement covers student drivers and non-taxpayers.

"Engkwentro" a film about Davao Death Squad won in Venice International FilmFest!

Indie film director Jose “Pepe” Diokno won two prestigious awards, namely, the grand prize in the Orrizonti section and the Luigi De Laurentiis (Lion of the Future) award for a debut film. Pepe Diokno won for his debut film Engkwentro at the recently concluded 66th Venice International Film Festival. Pepe Diokno is a University of the Philippines film undergraduate student. The awards meant a cash prize of $100,000.

2009 Outstanding Bansaleños revealed!

The 57th founding anniversary of Bansalan, Davao del Sur, will be on September 18, 2009.

On this occasion Mayor Edwin G. Reyes will bestow the coveted Outstanding Bansaleño Award to five Bansaleños for their exemplary contribution and for excelling in their chosen professions.

The five awardees are:

Dr. Teofredo T. Esguerra:

A medical doctor who is part of the Filipino team who scaled the world's highest peak, Nepal's Mount Everest, in 2006 as the team's lone physician. He stayed for the most part at the base camp, which was 18,000 feet above sea level.

Atty. Israelito P. Torreon:

President of the Davao del Sur chapter of Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP). As such, he was cited "for being elected the youngest president ever." A law professor at the Ateneo de Davao University, he founded the Ateneo Forensic, the university's law debating club. Last June, the team became champion in the first International Humanitarian Law Debate held at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.

Benjamin R. Lao:

Is recognized "for being chosen as the Gawad Saka 2008 national awardee for coconut farming by the Department of Agriculture." He has proven that a barren land can be turned into productive farm. His farm is located in Eman, Davao del Sur. Aside from coconut, the Lao Integrated Farm is also teeming with various fruits like lanzones (more than a thousand trees), durian (700 trees), mangosteen, and rambutan. He is an advocate in organic farming.

Leila Noel-Rispens:
She is cited "for leading the former residents of Bansalan now living abroad into a virtual community through the Association of Bansaleos Worldwide (ABW)."
Rispens-Noel is also one of the most sought speakers on such topics as migration, development, remittances, and capacity building of diaspora organizations. She is also a good source of information on links between remittances and development. She married a Dutch national, Willem Rispens, she used to live in the Netherlands but recently moved to Hong Kong.

Evelyn B. Laguidao:
She was known as Evelyn Bautista. She grew up and studied in Bansalan. Later on, she migrated to the United States, where she now works at the World Bank headquarters.

Another historic moment for Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto when they met for their first news conference and first ever to be held on the field of the new Yankees Stadium at The Bronx in New York City on Thursday(Friday Philippines).

There was so much respect between Pacquiao, the pride and joy of the Philippines, and Cotto, the shining glory of Puerto Rico. Both Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto, wore a New York Yankees jersey at the launch of their coast-to-coast media tour of their WBO welterweight title showdown in Las Vegas in November.

The Digos Active Mountaineers INC, Hold it's annual Penek Busay on September 26-27,2009. This is the 3rd Annual Activity in Barangay Goma, Digos City the "waterfalls capital" of Davao del Sur. The said activity is expecting atleast 300 visitors all over from Mindanao. This will be participating with the different mountaineering groups all over the Philippines. Mountaineering from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

During the Kadayawan Festival 2009 at the Floral Float Parade, I saw Marian Rivera the newest "Darna" on TV. I just can't believe my eyes, she looked at me and smiled.

Then all of a sudden she waved a hand at me! I could just died right then and there.

Fort San Pedro, Cebu City!


Fort San Pedro is one of the oldest fort in the Philippines, it is triangular in shape and made of stone and mortar. The tree bastions are La Concepcion, San Ignacio de Loyola and San Miguel. If you are in Cebu City and want to see some historical sites, this is the place to go to. It is quiet place to hide away from the busy city life.

Fiesta Feel around San Pedro Church every Sunday!


Sundays at San Pedro Church in Davao City, the main street fronting the church, City Hall and Rizal Park transform into a Sunday market. The church ceremony are going on from dawn until the early evening. Scenes that we usually see are all captured in pictures. This is where families go after attending their Sunday routine.
